Sunny stretch before a wet pattern starts Sunday

Clear skies and dry air settle in for a few days, but it won’t last through the weekend. Scattered rain arrives Sunday and, unfortunately, continues into Monday during the solar eclipse. Scattered rain is expected to begin across Texas this weekend, with scattered rain expected to continue into Monday during the solar eclipse. The weather will not be ideal for solar eclipse viewing on Monday due to the weather conditions. The National Weather Service is predicting partly cloudy skies for Dallas and Waco, but mostly cloudy for Austin, San Antonio and Houston. Severe weather is now expected to move into the East and Southeast U.S., with cold wet weather expected to follow. As of now, North Texas is less likely to be more cloudy in North Texas than Central, South and Southeast Texas.

HOUSTON (KIAH) – Clear skies and dry air settle in for a few days, but it won’t last through the weekend. Scattered rain arrives Sunday and, unfortunately, continues into Monday during the solar eclipse.

Texas is between storm systems for a few days, with sunny skies in the forecast for much of the state Wednesday through Friday. After widespread severe storms from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast Tuesday, severe weather now heads into the East and Southeast U.S., with cold wet weather behind it.

The next system soon emerges on the West Coast, which will introduce clouds in our area this weekend, and then some scattered rain Sunday. The clouds and potentially wet pattern last for a few more days, meaning the weather will not be ideal for solar eclipse viewing on Monday.

The image below is a snapshot of what one computer model indicates midday Monday. Green represents a chance of rain, and the red line is the solar eclipse path of totality. As of now, it seems that skies will be less cloudy in North Texas than Central, South and Southeast Texas.
