HOUSTON — Houston Police have released the name of the man killed Monday night in a daring ambush shooting at a gas station in the Gulfgate area.

Luis Alfredo Pacheco Rojas, 34, was the son of Alfredo Pacheco, who is president of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic.

"We have spoken with Mr. Pacheco about his son’s death and advised him detectives continue efforts to determine possible motives for the shooting," HPD posted on X.

A 29-year-old man, whose name hasn't been released, was critically wounded in what homicide detectives are calling a "targeted" attack.

It happened shortly after 7 p.m. at the Star Stop convenience store on South Wayside Drive near Telephone Road and the Gulf Freeway.

On Tuesday, police released surveillance photos of the three gunmen who they said opened fire on a Cadillac Escalade with the victims and two other men inside.

They pulled up in a gray four-door Dodge Charger and a gray four-door Mercedes sedan, surrounded the SUV and started shooting.

Pacheco Rojas tried to run back inside the store and was shot multiple times in the back. Police said he was also armed but it's not clear if he returned fire.
