Alief ISD holds restructuring meetings to determine future of district

Alief Independent School District is asking the community to help reconfigure how it operates following nine consecutive years of declining enrollment. Alief Independent School District (Alief ISD) is holding six community meetings to discuss the future of the district, which has seen nine consecutive years of declining enrollment. The initiative, which the district calls "School Optimization," could include campus closures, consolidations, expanding or creating programs, rezoning, and more. The district is facing budget pressures from decreased attendance and a higher cost of living. To illustrate the situation, 11 of its 24 elementary schools are currently under 50% capacity. The school board is set to vote on any potential changes on Feb. 4.
