Fast-casual Thai restaurant set to replace longtime Montrose spot

MaKiin Concepts has taken the wraps off their fast-casual restaurant Thai Tail. The menu features interesting twists on classic Thailand cuisine, like burgers. Thai Tail, the restaurateur behind Makiin, Lukkaew Srasrisuwan, is set to open a Thai fast-casual restaurant in Montrose, Houston, on June 20. The restaurant will replace La Fendee, a longtime spot in the area. The 1,200-square-foot space will have seating for 24 in the dining room and another 36 on the patio. The menu includes dishes such as crispy wonton pad Thai, shrimp nuggets, beef drunken chili with spinach tortilla chips, a panang chicken club sandwich and a green curry pork burger. Thai Tail will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.

When MaKiin launched last year, it was a unique culinary opportunity for most Houstonians: a chance to sample the eccentric faire of royal Thai cuisine. Now, the restaurateur behind Makiin, Lukkaew Srasrisuwan, is going the other direction, announcing plans to open a Thai fast-casual restaurant in Montrose.

Thai Tail will open June 20 at 1402 Westheimer Rd. where the old La Fendee used to be. The 1,200-square-foot space has seating for 24 in the dining room and another 36 on the patio, according to a press release.

The menu certainly plays around with Srasrisuwan’s cuisine of choice. Guests can look forward to crispy wonton pad Thai, shrimp nuggets, beef drunken chili with spinach tortilla chips, a panang chicken club sandwich and a green curry pork burger. Desserts include a Thai donut dipped in condensed milk and a Thai tea custard dip.

There’s also a beverage program and cocktails to sip. Signatures include The Beach, a frozen blend of rum, coconut and jasmine essence, and the Thaigerita, a Thai twist on a traditional margarita with tequila and tropical fruits.

Thai Tail will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner:

Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.

Thai Tail’s fast-casualness fits neatly with MaKiin Concepts’ portfolio of Houston restaurants, which includes its fine-dining namesake in Upper Kirby, modern Thai cuisine Kin Dee in the Heights, and fusion fast-food concept M Express Thai Kitchen in Briarmeadow.

La Fendee, the previous restaurant at the Montrose space, closed earlier this year. The Mediterranean spot was a longtimer in the area (17 years according to Houston Food Finder). News of Thai Tail replacing it was known as far back as March.
