How Marshall Faulk’s Southern football team is handling heartbreaking SWAC loss
HOUSTON — Southern looked sharp to start, lost control after a first-quarter blocked field goal and clawed back only to lose in devastating fashion. Southern University football team suffered a 24-21 loss to Texas Southern in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) on Saturday, dropping to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the league. Coach Marshall Faulk dismissed statistics, stating that the only important stat that matters is the score. The team lost after a first-quarter blocked field goal and a second-half use of a timeout by Texas Southern's Miguel Arana led to a game-winning field goal. Despite this, Southern's defensive leader Ckelby Givens and linebacker Tay James both acknowledged the team's emotional losses, but said they need to focus on the season and not dwell on them. Despite these losses, Southern has not yet achieved consecutive wins since the 2024 season.
