SE Houston home where mom allegedly left baby outside possibly belongs to the father, HPD says

At first, HPD thought the baby was dropped outside of a random home, but now there might be a bigger connection. ABC13 learned more about the mom-on-the-run and the shocking evidence, including text messages and her criminal history. The Houston Police Department has charged a 23-year-old woman, Loretta Norwood, who is believed to be the child's mother. Norwood allegedly left her baby son outside a home in southeast Houston on March 22 and left him alone for six hours before someone found him. The boy was found by a woman inside the home and is now in foster care. Court documents reveal that the baby's possible father called the police after receiving a text from Norwood the night before the alleged abandonment. The baby boy is now about nine months old and is being cared for by Child Protective Services.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The search for a 23-year-old woman continues a week after she allegedly left ditching off her baby boy outside a family's home in southeast Houston.

The video above is from a previous report.

The Houston Police Department believes Loretta Norwood is the infant's mother, and now she's facing a felony charge of abandoning a child.

Authorities shared the boy's picture with the public one week ago and haven't said much since.

Although the documents are public record, a spokesperson told ABC13 investigators don't want anything else released because they are trying to find Norwood.

On March 22, Norwood allegedly dropped her son off in a car seat outside a home in the 8400 block of Winthrop Lane shortly after midnight.

The boy was left alone for six hours outside in the middle of the night before someone found him.

According to the charging documents, the woman inside the home came outside at about 6 a.m., found the infant, and called police.

New court documents show the baby's possible father called the police, telling investigators that Norwood texted him that night at about 12:50 a.m.

He told investigators he didn't see his phone until the morning. It's unclear if the woman in the home where the baby was found was the man's mother.

Norwood is facing a felony charge of abandoning a child. Court records show that she was also on bond for drug possession in Fort Bend County.

The baby boy, who police said is about nine months old, was released from the hospital last week and is now in foster care.

The Katy Police Department sent Eyewitness News Norwood's mugshot from a separate incident earlier this month.

Court records show Norwood met up with two people to buy an iPhone and ran off.

Her bond was set at $25,000, which she posted two weeks before allegedly abandoning her baby.

ABC13 spoke to Norwood's brother on the phone. He said he isn't close with his sister but knows she has two other children.

Eyewitness News asked Child Protective Services whether her other children are also in their custody, but we are waiting to hear back.
